What is Immutable Audit Log?

An immutable audit log is a record store whose entries cannot be altered or deleted after writing — only appended. For AI governance it is the property that makes logs usable as evidence with auditors, courts, and regulators.

Mutable logs prove little: if administrators can edit history, the record shows what someone chose to keep, not what happened.

Immutability is achieved through append-only storage, cryptographic chaining or write-once retention, and separation of duties between those who generate events and those who could wish them gone.
