What is Prompt Logging?
Prompt logging is the practice of recording the prompts users send to AI systems, along with the responses returned, as part of an organization’s AI governance and audit posture. It is the foundational data source for AI visibility, security review, and compliance evidence.
Without prompt logs, an organization cannot answer basic questions: did sensitive data enter a prompt, which model produced a given answer, what did the AI actually tell an employee before they acted.
Good prompt logging is more than storage. It requires attribution (who, when, which tool and model), policy context (what rules applied), retention aligned with legal requirements, and access controls so the logs themselves do not become a new risk.
Tokto maintains AI logs at the checkpoint level, so logging is consistent across every tool and provider rather than dependent on each vendor’s settings.
